Our History

In 1980, we began our operations at Lima airport, and since then, we have been committed to the continuous optimization of all our processes.

Our founder embarked on a journey full of passion and commitment to Peru at Jorge Chávez International Airport.

Carbon Neutral Certification
As part of our commitment to the environment, we have become the first internationally certified carbon neutral foreign currency exchange. Carbon neutral certification is an international recognition endorsed by United Nations Climate Change. This has allowed us to incorporate climate management at all levels of our business, preparing us for a more demanding market when it comes to climate standards.
At WorldXchange, we believe that investing in the climate agenda is not only the right thing to do in order to address the major problems our society now faces, but is also an important opportunity to foster economic reactivation through tourism while boosting Peru’s image and actively participating in the environmental standards promoted by LAP, inspiring others to follow our lead.
Forest Friends es una iniciativa de Green Initiative que tiene como meta plantar 100,000 árboles nativos de diversas especies para restaurar ecosistemas y proteger los hábitats de especies en peligro de extinción, en varios puntos críticos de biodiversidad a nivel global y bajo los estándares de UN Decade Ecosystem Restoration. El año 2023, abrazamos el compromiso de plantar 1,000 árboles para el 2030, para contribuir a la conservación y restauración de los ecosistemas en Madre de Dios, una región reconocida como la capital de la biodiversidad en el Perú.
This effort will help protect animal and plant species, including several classified as threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List, such as the jaguar, whose population has declined by an estimated 20–25% due to habitat degradation and fragmentation.
We are proud of our commitment to generating a positive impact on the climate. In 2024, we earned the Climate Positive certification for going beyond the carbon neutrality we achieved in 2023. This means we are capturing more carbon dioxide than we emit, while promoting ecosystem restoration in Madre de Dios.
Continuing the efforts started in 2023 has allowed us to become the first currency exchange company in the world to achieve this certification, setting a new benchmark for businesses seeking to make a significant contribution to climate and nature. This achievement is a testament to our strong commitment to the environmental standards promoted by LAP, and we hope to inspire others to follow our lead and actively participate in protecting the planet.
Our commitment to sustainability led us to sponsor a globally significant event. Since 2019, a series of sustainable activities have been implemented to reduce emissions in the city and historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu by 45% by 2030, with the ultimate goal of achieving ZERO emissions by 2050, in line with the Paris Agreement. Key actions include comprehensive solid waste management, which has helped mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and reduce the environmental impact caused by ecosystem degradation and fragmentation. These initiatives are essential to preserving the natural environment of this world wonder.
